It’s hard to believe, but it was just 10 years ago that Oribe, the brand featuring luxury haircare products, was introduced to the professional industry. Since the then, Oribe artists have traveled internationally sharing trend and product information to hairdressers around the world. The artists and Oribe products have been used for magazine covers, behind the scenes at photo shoots and at all international fashion week’s, keeping this now iconic brand still the one to watch.
Oribe regularly holds an Atelier, gathering artists for hands-on education and training while introducing them to the latest products, tools and techniques. The workshop held earlier this week was special in that it was held to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the brand.
Kicking off the event was Daniel Kaner, opening the show with a presentation about engaging and elevating the hairdressing community and looking toward a bright future. “We are pathfinders,” Kaner says. “We must set the pace for the next generation.”
The full day event was held at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, NY. 450 salon owners, stylists and industry trend setters were in attendance to learn from mainstage presenters and Oribe educators including Coby Alcantar (Director of Training & Content, Cutting), Kien Hoang (Director of Training & Content), Ronnie Stam (Creative Director), and James Pecis (Oribe Global Ambassador).
There were many highlights during the morning main stage including a presentation by the Goldwell team (Artistic Director Rebecca Hiele and Artistic Team Member Nick Pagano) showing their newest collection and offering formula and trend suggestions.
The second half of the day was spent with a hands-on exercise where 115 stylists practiced pin curls, wig caps, and wig cutting. Once the wig was cut and styled, the stylists removed the wig, took out the pins curls and styled into a loose, romantic look.
According to Kaner, the Oribe line is about quality, performance, design and fragrance and that education is one thing technically, “but it really is about our individual leadership, finding our best selves along the way and leading from that platform.” The Oribe leader wrapped up with this thought: “It’s about discovering the beauty and kindness within our own journey. My personal wish for all of you is to lead with love and courage.”
