The key to great balayage is control during application to ensure just the right placement and saturation. That’s why L’anza Healing Haircare launched its Clay Decolorizer, a clay lightener with consistency that warrants ultimate control and a formula that offers up to seven levels of lift. The clay is formulated with Kaolin, a natural clay that activates the decolorizer powder into a soft spreadable mixture that stays moist and in place as it lightens.

To put the new lightener to the test, three balayage artists tried it out in the salon, yielding stunning results. Colorists Hailey Mahone (@haileymahonehair), Stephanie Shellenberger (@stephanie_stylist) and Alison Valsamis (@braidedandblonde) made their cold-weather color creations into realities, whether that be by warming up balayaged brunettes, softening blondes or creating more dimension overall.

The Clay Decolorizer is mixed with cream developer—either 10, 20, 30 or 40 volume—in a 1:2 ratio in a nonmetallic bowl. It processes at room temperature for up to 60 minutes, depending on desired level of lift.

“I’m always excited to test new balayage products,” Shellengberger says. “L’anza Clay Decolorizer’s moisture-rich clay mixes into a creamy consistency for easy application. The developer contains keratin to heal and protect the hair.”

Even in this lightener, L’anza incorporates its Keratin Healing System, which replenishes vital keratin protein to heal the hair while ensuring hair integrity during the lightening process to deliver beautiful color on shiny, healthy hair.
