Janel Latessa color correction.
Janel Latessa color correction.

Janel Latessa (@hairbyjanellatessa), a Lakme USA Educator and owner of JL Hair Artistry, Cleveland, Ohio, says her new client had set up a consultation a few months before for color. “She was in the market for a new stylist and wanted all of the gold out and grays covered.” Latessa also says her client was looking to go bright blonde. “In my head I am thinking-oh boy is her hair compromised or is it just very difficult to lift up? I decided I would take on this challenge!” Latessa’s goal was to maintain the health of the hair and her client agreed, adding that she did not care about the timing or pricing. Latessa chose to use a combination of techniques which she notes is needed to successfully remove gold.

Here the artist shares the details for this correction:

STEP 1: Apply Lakmé 20g4/0 20g5/0 20vol. to the root throughout to create a more even canvas and cover the gray hair.

STEP 2: Take fine weaves, tease at the root and place on foil. Apply Lakmé K Blonde 20vol-30vol, blended with Olaplex from mids to ends, feathering up to the teased area. Take 3 back to back foils in this manner and then skip a small fingers width before starting the pattern again. Place in a bricklayer pattern, working from the back forward.

STEP 3: Place babylights throughout, especially along the hairline.

STEP 4: Shampoo and towel dry. Apply Lakmé Pearl toner with 0/00 Gloss for 10 minutes to seal cuticle and add the cool(violet) tone. “Olaplex was used along the whole service and conditioning treatment.”
