Scott Aronesty, owner of Hair By Scott, Delray Beach, Florida, has had a finalist in each of the past five Goldwell Color Zoom Challenge’s - all who have ultimately competed in the Global Zoom event, the grand international competition held in a different country each year.

At the most recent Global Zoom held in Toronto, Canada in the fall of 2018, MODERN bumped in to Aronesty and Harley Lobasso, winner of the 2015 competition, who were there to support their most recent finalist, Alicia Capazzoli.

Here the two offer their tips on doing well in any competition:

Aronesty says his staff can raise their prices when they do well in any competition, but to do well, each must:

  1. Start working on the competition at least three months prior.
  2. Get the education and really understand the competition.
  3. Do your homework and learn from others who have done well in that same competition.

Lobasso says “Winning was the best time of my life. I grew so much from it. Anybody that’s an artist, nobody can ever take away your hands or your heart. Go for it.” She says to do well, any competitor must:

  1. Have a great team.
  2. Listen to your team and learn from them.
  3. Have a great model
