It wasn't too long ago that the idea of a holographic world seemed to exist only in the realms of film and television (hello, Zenon!) But the trend has quickly made its way over to the hair world, and colorists everywhere are embracing it.

When Goldwell launched its @Pure Pigments direct-dye additive, colorists quickly saw the impact of the products' bright hues and dimensional effects. The results continue to blow up social media feeds and generate results with 63% more shine when combined with Goldwell's color lines. The shades are boosted by up to three-times the color intensity, and color will have twice as much resistance to fading.

Artist Kristi Waldrop, @theartistkristi, took @Pure Pigments on a test drive and achieved stunning results.

"I love using @Pure Pigments," Waldrop says. "You can mix them with anything and everything. I have never been able to do a single overlay of color and have it have the iridescent/holographic tones that @Pure Pigments are able to provide. It's truly magical."

The pigments don't mix together, Goldwell says. Instead, they sit next to each other on the hair so that each dye reflects its own color. Pearl Blue and Matte Green soften and counteract unwanted tones while Pure Yellow, Pure Orange, Pure Red and Pure Violet create a vibrant effect.

To achieve this stunning holographic purple, Waldrop followed these steps:

  1. Make sure hair is at a level 9 before applying Goldwell formula.
  2. Apply formula from roots to ends: 50g Colorance Pastel Lavender + 4 drops Pure Violet @Pure Pigment
  1. Process for 20 minutes. Rinse and style.
