Rona O'Connor Gives Valerie Azlynn a Makeover for Little RascalsTune into The Balancing Act on Lifetime TV on January 14, 2013 to catch the incredibly talented colorist Rona O'Connor's “dos and don'ts” of professional hair color. O'Connor will be answering questions on how to choose a professional colorist that best works for clients' needs.

On the show, O'Connor showcases  her skills by demonstrating how her work with celebrities ahs taught her a lot about the importance of maintaining the integrity of your clients' hair. For this example on the show, she explains how her client, actree Valerie Azlynn, was to star in the remake of The Little Rascals and needed to go from a brunette to blonde--knowing she will be a brunette again in just 30 days for her next role.

INSPIRATION: “I was given a 'shade' of blonde to create that would suit The Little Rascals era and the actress Valerie Azlynn, who had to be transformed into that era for her role," O'Connor says. "On top of making sure the color suited both elements, I had to keep the hair in good condition so it could be colored back in 30 days to a beautiful brown for Valerie’s character on the TBC network show Sullivan and Son.”

DECOLORIZE
Decolorize to a lighter brunette/dark blonde using Goldwell Topchic hair color. Mix 35mls Topchic Blonding cream ash with 35mls of 30-volume peroxide. Apply the mixture 2 inches off the scalp through the ends, process 15 minutes, then apply to the remainder of the hair. Process another 10 minutes. Rinse. Condition with Goldwell Color Fade Stop Detangling Shampoo and Conditioner. This lifts the brown tint 2 shades on previously highlighted hair to allow a lighter base. This process also makes highlighting much easier with less damage.

Mix 10mls Colorance clear + 10mls 10v + 40mls of Colorance developer. Apply to damp hair, process 10 minutes. Rinse, condition with Color Detangling Conditioner or 60 second mask for a more intensive quick conditioning treating. No shampoo.

"She HAD to look like a natural blonde, she couldn't look highlighted, so that's why I placed the foils so closely together, and left a little bit of depth," O'Connor says. "We wanted to get her as light as we could in a natural tone without damaging her hair."
