Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Florence Welch and Janelle Monae all sported especially newsworthy manicures at the Grammy Awards but pre-show, there were some stars vying for another competition, this one for best song-inspired manicure design. Using Gelish products, manicurist Melissa Bozant created a “Sexy and I Know It” set of nails, paying tribute to the song by by pop group LMFAO.
The “Nail-Off” challenge, which was a segment created for “E!’s Live Countdown to the Grammy Awards”, featured a total of three celebrity manicurists who did their best to “out-mani” each other. Each manicure was inspired by a Grammy nominated song/artistic/album. The manicurists then transformed the nails of three lucky audience members and within the hour of the countdown, they revealed their “mani-masterpieces” at the end of the show.
Bozant chose to work with Gelish® because “she knew that with the amount of time in which she was provided, she would have to work with a product that worked as quickly as her.” Gelish® was her solution because it dries in only 30 seconds under the Gelish® 18G LED light. She knew that by using Gelish®, she wouldn’t have any issues with smudging. Bozant stated that the look was “fun and outrageous” just like the song.
