Note From the Editor: In Confidence
My niece, Quinn, has beautiful, very textured hair—it’s often the first thing people mention when they meet her or see a photo of her. “Oh, those curls!” “Look at that hair!” Even as a two-year-old, she’s aware that her hair makes her different.
On a recent family vacation to Florida, as Quinn played in the pool with her dad, a woman approached my sister. “Your daughter has the most amazing curls, and I want her to love them,” the woman said as she reached into her bag and handed her a Jane Carter Solution leave-in styler. “Have her try this product.”
The product fairy was Jane Carter herself, salon owner and founder of the eponymous product line designed to help curlies love and embrace their natural textures. Not only is she a curl expert, but she is also a master
of walking the walk when it comes to being a textured-hair specialist. Jane had no idea Quinn had any relation to the editor of MODERN SALON; this curl confidence is just part of her DNA. (Learn more about Jane and other curl experts in the bonus texture! guide included with this issue of MODERN.)
Clients want solutions to hair concerns—whether it’s battling frizz and damage, or for sensitive subjects
like thinning. And it starts with having the confidence to tackle the consultation, be it chairside or poolside.
That’s why this August, just in time for National Hairloss Awareness Month, we’re debuting MODERN SALON’s HAIR+ program covering all aspects of thinning hair and related solutions from fibers, extensions, wigs, nutraceuticals, topicals, surgical solutions and scalp treatments, all designed to arm you with the information, tools and confidence you need to get involved in the hair thinning conversation with your clients.
I’ll never forget how Quinn’s face lit up at a recent local parade when she saw 50-plus Irish dancers clogging down the street to roars of applause, all sporting the traditional ringletted wigs. She was so excited and proud to see so many girls with hair like hers as she watched the parade from atop her dad’s shoulders with, thanks to Jane Carter, her own perfectly ringletted curls bouncing up and down.
