Even though the autumn days might be lacking sunshine, it doesn’t mean your clients’ faces shouldn’t boast a healthy, natural-looking radiance.

“Highlighting in the warmer months is a fun way to accentuate a sun-kissed summer glow and enhance a natural contour,” says Sacha Selhi, director of global artistry, sales and education at Vincent Longo cosmetics. Whereas contouring shadows angles of the face or slims the bridge of the nose, highlighting plays up the face’s natural features.

Erin Griffin, brand manager for BeautyAddicts cosmetics says the difference of using highlighter when transitioning from summer to fall simply means going from that summer glow to a luminous luster.

“A new highlighting trend that works wonderfully after the summer tan has faded away is strobing,” Selhi says.

Strobing is the same concept as highlighting; the difference is strobing is not used in conjunction with contouring, whereas highlighting is.

Whether contouring/highlighting or strobing, shiny or pearlescent cosmetics known as highlighters or luminizers are applied to highlight high points of the face. Cheekbones, brow bones, the bridge of the nose, forehead and above the cupid’s bow are dusted with these creams, gels or powders to give skin a natural-looking radiance and a dewy glow.
