Wella Professional Master Colorist Eva Scrivo loves luscious, rich color this season. Here, she gives a model a warm brunette shade created with multiple hues for added depth and dimension. Mixing up different formulas and volumes of developers allows Scrivo maximum creativity. “It is a wonderful range of brightness offering different tonal values and warmth in the hair,” she says. “This creates subtle variations without having to reformulate.”

Salvatore Minardi, owner of Salvatore Minardi Salon in Madison, New Jersey, has been a fan of MODERN SALON’s Artist Session program since it began this past spring. Even when he was in Europe and could not attend the second session, he sent a member of his staff to key in to the education and experience.
Goldwell’s International Color Zoom ’10 Creative Team has released Just Naked, the 2010 Color Zoom collection based on the foundations of reduction and simplification—organic shapes blended with a natural and essential color palette. The Just Naked styles incorporate elemental shapes that are worked into dramatically new and unique hairstyles. New cutting concepts were used to create lines and textures that suggest natural elements. Goldwell introduced Naked Facets, three new Topchic shades inspired by the Just Naked collection: Faceted Amber Brown, Pearl Beige and Lilac Brown.

Do your clients understand the difference between a demipermanent and
permanent color? Have you educated them on the different results they
can achieve with looks and coverage? While a demi is great for a color-shy client, permanent color can
achieve more dramatic change and better gray coverage for clients with
more than 50- percent gray. However, demis still tend to be the most
popular variety among clients.

Group 3 Marketing, a full-service agency serving all segments of
the beauty industry, recently shared findings that point to an upbeat
holiday shopping season. A new report from American Express Spending
and Saving Tracker, which examines American consumer views and
priorities, shows some evolving trends that can positively impact salon
business this season:
In Wasilla, Alaska, owner Jennifer Camer organizes a simple
philanthropic activity that helps clients and staff get in the holiday
spirit while bringing joy to local disadvantaged youth. Each year,
Camer’s Selah Salon and Health Spa (selahsalonandspa.com) receives gift tags from the Salvation Army. Each tag lists the name and age of a child, as well as the child’s gift request.
For years, Seattle’s Habitude Salon Spa Gallery (habitude.com),
sunk its holiday advertising money in billboards, radio and print
advertising. But this year owner Inez Gray felt her money was better
spent on a television campaign. “I thought we could create more of a feeling with TV, and I also
wanted to move in this direction so we can take our website and
Facebook pages to new levels with video and imagery,” she says.
