“This season, I wanted to turn the world of SHOWPONY inside out,” Frausto shares. “The idea started with a wig. What happens when you flip it over and look at the part you’re not supposed to see—the construction, the knots, the underside, the things that usually stay hidden?

“Hair is my material, but this time I wanted to see how far I could push it beyond hair itself. Silk is screen-printed to look like strands. Wool and mohair mimic its texture. Deadstock hair is heated, felted, and manipulated using techniques I’ve learned behind the chair. At a certain point, the line between it all becomes blurred.

“The collection is a continuation of the SHOWPONY universe, but here garments start to take shape as a wardrobe–moving from head to toe, with clothing and headwear becoming part of the same hairy world. I wanted the pieces to feel ceremonial and otherworldly, like you’ve walked into the middle of a ritual.

“There’s symbolism in the collection, and there’s the moon. Using dyes from PRAVANA, red feels like sacrifice and rebirth, while blue evokes a sense of cleansing—a nod to water, renewal, and my abuela, who never failed to remind me that we have the chance to wash it all away, and start again. The lunar tones speak to cycles, instinct, and everything we can’t quite explain. Together, they feel primal.

“SHOWPONY started in the space between beauty and transformation. This season, I’m interested in what happens when you stop hiding the construction and let the strange parts show.”

Alongside the show, Evanie Frausto released TOCADO, a collaborative project pairing photography by Jeffrey Pearson with Frausto's hair and creative direction, featuring a diverse range of talent from his community. The book is available at $60, with gross proceeds benefiting the Ali Forney Center, which supports LGBTQ+ homeless youth in New York.
