In 2016, Dyson made its first foray into the beauty industry with the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. Over two years, engineering teams worked with hair stylists to develop a bespoke-designed hair dryer for the professional market.

On April 28th, Dyson will launch the new Dyson Supersonic hair dryer professional edition. This new machine is designed to tackle some of the intrinsic issues with conventional hair dryers while providing professional hair stylists with a machine engineered for their needs.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer professional edition uses a fast but focused airflow for precise styling, with the temperature of the airflow constantly measured to prevent extreme heat damage. The product also has a newly developed filtration system and professional attachments. The dryer uses Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology. The volume of the air drawn into the motor is amplified by three due to this technology, producing a high pressure, high velocity jet of air. The dryer also creates a focused jet of air, angled at 20° for controlled, precise drying and styling.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer professional edition is powered by the patented Dyson V-9 digital motor. It is Dyson’s smallest, lightest, advanced digital motor. It is light, fast and small enough to be positioned in the handle rather than the head, making it engineered for balance.

There are three heat settings, three airflow settings and a cold shot. There's also a set of magnetic attachments, allowing stylists to achieve a range of different styles. Each attachment has technology to help prevent it being too hot to touch.

The styling concentrator: Professional stylists not only need precision but speed is an important factor. To cater to larger sections of hair when styling, but also maintaining a controlled airflow, a wider, thinner nozzle has been designed to enhance precision styling.

The diffuser: The Dyson diffuser is engineered to disperse air evenly around curls. It simulates natural drying, helping to reduce frizz and improve definition.

The smoothing nozzle: The Dyson engineered smoothing nozzle dries hair gently, using smooth, wide air, allowing you to dry and style at the same time.
