Vivienne Mackinder recently announced an exciting new contest for North American cosmetology students. The Rising Star Competition is a new division of Intercoiffure America Canada (ICA), a group of top salons and stylists in North America.

Famed hairstylist Didier Malige is known for creating beautiful finishes and for avoiding the press. We caught up with him backstage during New York Fashion Week as he was prepping the hair for fashion designer Juan Carlos Obando (a presenter at the most recent NAHA). We watched as he moved from model to model to "unfinish" back knots. Malige and his elite team from No. 4 High Performance Hair Care transformed 18 models for the Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. This was particularly special for us because Malige rarely speaks to editors or reporters. Since we were all there SOOO early, Malige granted Modern Salon an exclusive interview!
The Professional Beauty Association presented the NAHA awards on July 18 in conjunction with Beauty Week and Cosmoprof North America. The gala began with a red-carpet reception prior to the awards ceremony. Beacon students kicked off the ceremony with a “Flash Mob” dance, setting the tone for an evening filled with entertainment, talent, and celebrating the artistry and skill of the professional salon industry.
The sweetest symphony is the one that lives inside of every one of us. It has different rhythms, tempos and crescendos that compel us to express ourselves through art, fashion and photography. I had the great privilege of sharing my symphony at NAHA this year.
