NYFW: Oribe Hair Spring/Summer 2023

Oribe has had a huge presence on the hair side of this year’s September New York Fashion Week, taking the stage along with major fashion labels and adding the finishing touches to all sorts of innovative looks. The ensembles and models are visually stunning, but none are complete without gorgeous hair.

Here is the inspiration for the hair looks that Oribe’s top stylists executed for several luxury fashion brands.

Marrisa Wilson

The Marrisa Wilson Spring/Summer 2023 Collection drew inspiration from the designer’s Guyanese-American heritage. “It is that feeling of the past and the present coming together to inform the future that I wanted to evoke,” she said of the collection. Expressive prints, watercolor strokes and brightly colored feathers are complemented by a hair look that brings the theme “Of Many Waters” to life. Kien Hoang, Oribe Principal Artist of Content and Styling, created a variation of braided styles, all adorned with clear beads in a range of sizes to mimic rain drops.

Ulla Johnson

The Ulla Johnson Spring/Summer 2023 Collection drew inspiration from female beauty and natural hair textures. To bring this vision to life, Session Stylist Bob Recine accentuated the collection’s bold and colorful prints and fabrics with the hair’s natural tendencies, emphasizing confident, natural beauty.

Private Policy

The theme of the Private Policy Spring/Summer 2023 Collection is described as, “Capturing peace for all,” by Creative Director Siying Qu. Kien Hoang translated the theme into a hair look reminiscent of an easy nightclub style.

Eckhaus Latta

The Eckhaus Latta Spring/Summer 2023 Collection, featuring a textural mix of fabrics, drew inspiration from El Jardin Del Paraiso, a very raw garden in New York City. Session Stylist Tamara McNaughton married the fluid, light ease of super-natural raw hair in its raw environment with unexpected looks that highlight the optimism, illusion and humanness of it all

Kim Shui

The Kim Shui Spring/Summer 2023 Collection drew inspiration from female warriors, the four ancient beauties of China and the traditional dress of Hmong people in Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi and Yunnan. Kien Hoang translated this into two sleek, sculpted braided hair looks representing a Chinese warrior and the circle of life. Both looks feature braids formed into circles, with the braids extending to various lengths.

Gabriela Hearst

The Gabriela Hearst Spring/Summer 2023 Collection drew inspiration from Sappho—one of the world’s first examples of feminism from the 6th century—and gold metallic body forms. Session Stylist Holli Smith complemented the collection with a hair look rooted in simplicity and minimal beauty. A very flat crown grounded the style, with natural texture through the lengths that embraced the models’ individual hair patterns.

Gauntlett Cheng

The Gauntlett Cheng Spring/Summer 2023 Collection delivered the feminine, moody aesthetic synonymous with the brand. Session Stylist Dylan Chavles created a very long and full, slicked back ponytail to embrace the collection’s femininity, with the extra-long length adding strength to the look and serving as the perfect juxtaposition to complement the line. The knee-length style also drew inspiration from the hair-adorned pieces in the line.

Markarian

Designer Alexandra O’Neill described the Markarian Spring/Summer 2023 Collection as one that explores the synergies between art, fashion and nature. “Vine-like motifs, glimmering sequins, and varied proportions speak to the idea of growth and renewal, inspired by the works of great Renaissance masters,” she said of the season’s designs. Oribe Global Artist Mandee Tauber created complementary hair looks that brought Renaissance beauty to life.
