How can hair extensions be used to correct a cut?
“Most women don’t want to lose their length because their long hair comforts them and gives them security,” says Ron King, co-creator of HairArt. “Think of extensions as a filler—the missing piece to the puzzle. An amazing artist can look at a picture and visualize where there are holes missing. This is why we sell Invisi-Tab extensions in our salon by the sandwich and not by the box. Another common client we all know is the ‘chemical cut’ client. Most clients who love that bleached-blonde color always have a hard time growing their hair, leaving the hair with pointy, uneven ends that to your client looks like a bad hair cut. Putting in one row of extensions is a simple, easy fix to quickly fill the bottom line and give a nice full look with even ends. Additionally, as most women mature, they tend to lose the hair on the side of their head. To fix this, put in one or two sandwiches on each side to fill that empty area.”
How can extensions be used to help a client grow out a fringe?
“Clip-in bang pieces can be used to help a client grow out fringe by masking lengths—especially awkward mid-growth lengths—and weighing down any cowlicks,” says Matt Fugate, celebrity stylist. “Another method is using permanent extensions, such as The Hair Shop’s I-Tip and Keratip extensions to add length to the fringe area to help blend down to full hair length.”
How can clip-in extensions or hair pieces be used to create the illusion of layers or volume without commitment?
“Individual clip-in wefts can be positioned from the crown to the nape so that they create layers that are higher and/or lower than the client’s own hair,” says Christina Jones, education and product development manager for HairUWear, parent company of Hairdo. “The placement of extensions naturally creates soft layering and tapered ends, and extensions can of course be cut and customized. For dramatic, long layers, use varying lengths of extensions: place the shorter length near the crown and the longer length near the nape. If your client is looking to add volume, clip-in extensions add overall volume in a snap.
Simply choose a length to match your client’s length, or trim longer extensions to match. Individual pieces from a Hairdo Extension Kit let you customize the volume to your client’s hairstyle. One-piece extension styles, like the Hairdo 23" Wavy Extension, are great for adding amazing volume in very little time.”
