Sandra Yu: Shaggy Chic

1 min to read

“This season I am loving classic, layered looks from the ’70s and ’80s,” says Rusk creative director Sandra Yu. “Think Johnny Depp or John Mayer—casual, cool and natural.”

Lately, Yu has been creating silhouettes with tight sides and backs, “but not cropped—to offer more versatility.” Yu kept  length on model Christian so that he could create looks that are “classic, edgy or funky—all he needs to do is brush it differently or apply product.

“I also decided to work with natural hairlines, which is why I didn’t do much to his sideburns.”

For color, Yu wanted to remove the brassy tones running throughout his hair. “Not light, not dark,” says Yu.
“I want to enrich the color. I want to add substance, not make him a beach bum!” She chooses a chocolate/caramel base and adds dimensional highlights for a classic look with a modern twist.
