A new competition show is showcasing the artistry of professional hairstyling and placing it on a worldwide stage. “Hairstyle: The Talent Show!” is airing now on Discovery+ and the winner will receive $150,000 value in prizes.  The program is hosted by the internationally renowned Maestro Rossano Ferretti, famous for his network of luxury salons in Milan, New York, Paris, Rome, Dubai, Shanghai, Vienna and his native Parma, as well as for creating the “the invisible haircut” that produces the casual, lived-in shapes that women crave. Ferretti will also mentor the winner in their business.

The show is co-hosted by Riawna Capri and Nikki Lee, owners of Nine Zero One salon in Los Angeles. Their celebrity clients include Selena Gomez, Nina Dobrev, Hillary Duff and Emma Roberts. Celebrity judges will include Christine Quinn of “Selling Sunset,” “Allure” Editor in Chief Jessica Cruel, Bravo’s Paige Desorbo, influencer Tina Leung and Nick Stenson, founder of Nick Stenson Beauty, Matrix Brand Ambassador and ULTA senior vice president.

There are eight episodes in the series, focusing on two challenges per episode. Challenges are wide-ranging tests of the contestants’ skills, including avant garde hair and “Instagram-worthy” looks. More than 500 pros initially applied to be on the show; those were whittled down to 50 who were flown to New York to audition. The production company for the show--Shine Iberia, A Banijay Company--has also produced such reality stalwarts as “Chopped,” “The Voice” and “Project Runway.”  Separate productions of the show will appear in the U.S., Mexico, Italy, Brazil and Spain, each featuring local contestants, co-hosts and judges.

“I feel that too many people consider hairdressing as a last choice,” comments Ferretti. “I’m doing the television show to help people understand who we are, how we create beauty, and the artistry and craft that is required of us.”

The show is supported by top hair industry brands, including main sponsor Alfaparf Milano Professional haircare, coloring and finishing products; plus Great Lengths extensions, Rossano Ferretti Parma hair treatments; Gama Professional dryers and Maletti salon furniture. The winner will also be awarded $10,000 extra to spend on their salon and will join the prestigious international teaching team of the MDB Education hairstyling master's program.

Born in Italy, Ferretti began working at his family’s hairstyling business at the age of 12. Over time, his passion for hair grew and eventually he created “The Method.” It’s an approach to haircutting that employs “invisible layers” to customize every cut, so that regardless of the client’s hair type, length or texture, the finished result is balanced, manageable, sexy and completely bespoke. The Method is now used by all of the stylists at every one of the 22 Rossano Ferretti salon locations, as well as artists who have trained on the technique over the years.

Ferretti serves as the global ambassador for Alfaparf Milano Professional hair care, a leading Italian brand in professional haircare, whose hair color, he believes, is among the best in the world. He has also created an eponymous line of luxury natural hair care products. Created in Italy by a team of hair artisans and specialists, the care and styling products in the Rossano Ferretti Parma range respect the elements of natural hair using innovative skincare technology. “Every formula,” he notes, “is meticulously tested and refined by the industry’s leading hair artists.”
