As Editor in Chief, Alison Alhamed shapes the content and voice for MODERN SALON's social media platforms, digital channels and monthly print magazine. Alison collaborates closely with salon professionals, social influencers, brands and industry personalities to connect them with our community of readers and followers. As a beauty editor, public speaker and licensed cosmetologist, Alison was named one of Folio magazine's 13 Under 30 emerging leaders in publishing. She regularly judges industry competitions; presents on how to build a following on social media; collaborates with brands on photoshoots, marketing and advertising campaigns; and is passionate about the professional salon industry.
Wow! Cosmoprof/Beauty Week is AWESOME so far! Landed here in Vegas, after some drama (I left my wallet on the airplane.... dummy!), I got all situated and headed down to the pool area for lunch. Wow, the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino is such an awesome place! Everywhere I turn, I bump into someone I know from the industry... so cool!
Just landed in Vegas for PBA's Beauty Week/Cosmoprof and it is HOT! I am super excited about being here in Vegas for the event... the city, the vibe, the people--such an exciting place to be.
When Salon Today Editor Stacey Soble asked me to attend the Harms Millennium User Group Conference, I was VERY excited. I’ve always heard the people from Harms were inspirational leaders in the industry and I knew there would be tons of owners I have corresponded with through Salon Today and Modern Salon through various channels—I love to meet people face to face and share business ideas. And, that’s EXACTLY what this User Group Conference (UGC) is all about: sharing ideas, networking, discussing what works and what doesn’t work (in terms of management, ownership, best practices and front desk, among others).

Hey Modern readers!! I'm at Premiere Orlando and boy, oh boy... this show is going to be AWESOME!! I began the today with a red eye flight out to Orlando. It is HOT here! My hair instantly frizzed up into a Q-tip... thank God for flatirons! On the way here, I got my foot slammed in the door of the airplane... yes, SLAMMED in the door (if you see me on the showfloor with a limp, you'll know why, lol!), there's already been a Tabatha sighting (LOVE her!) and I am SO excited to be here! LOVE show season!
We asked, “A woman with dark, Level 3-4 hair (virgin) walks into your salon and says, “I want my hair color to look exactly like Jessica Simpson’s for my 10th high school reunion tomorrow night.” She has no gray. How do you proceed?”

The season finale of Shear Genius 3 had the industry abuzz—everyone had their favorite contestant! For thejudges on the show, that favorite was Brig Van Osten, who snagged the big win this season. We asked our Facebook fans what they thought about the shocker.
ANGUS MITCHELL, co-owner of Paul Mitchell Systems and an influential educator in the beauty industry, launched his Angus M Salon in Beverly Hills, California, in July 2009. One look inside the 1,800-square-foot space and you can see why Mitchell’s salon has been called, “the cool kid on the block.”
With America’s Beauty Show right around the corner, I decided I had to step up my game and get some life back into my locks. There are three things I did to truly resuscitate my hair. One: I had a L’Oreal Professionnel Powerdose treatment. Two: Used Kim Vo's intense moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Three: Used an Izunami flatiron that infused softness and shine back into my dull, limp hair.
OMG! You guys!! I got hair extensions!!! AHH!!! OK. I know what you're thinking. "Alison, you have long hair—why on Earth do you need hair extensions?!" Here's the thing: I never ever thought I could benefit from extensions, but honestly, my hair has never looked better! It's fuller, it's longer, it's just as shiny and it's fabulous!!
Oh my gosh—it's FINALLY here! America's Beauty Show!!!! I'm all checked into my hotel, I just had a fabulous dinner with Maggie (Modern's Beauty and Fashion Director, duh!) and we're totally excited about all that's coming up in the next few days. Coolest things about ABS, in no particular order : )
