Beauty and Fashion Director, MODERN SALON
MODERN's Beauty & Fashion Director is the NYC based Editor and Art Director for Modern Salon Magazine and modernsalon.com. Maggie joined MODERN in the 1980's and has spent more than 3 decades covering the professional beauty industry around the world. In addition to writing articles, Maggie travels globally as a journalist to report on the latest trends, products and techniques in the professional beauty world. Known for a keen eye, Maggie has judged hundreds of national competitions including NAHA, and international competitions such as Wella International Trend Vision and Goldwell Color Zoom among others. As an Art Director, Maggie is responsible for hundreds of magazine covers and thousands of inside pages and features for Modern Salon and her sister publications. Among her many professional passions is ARTIST SESSION, the 2-day workshop she founded which offers direction and inspiration to hairdressers interested in learning how to do successful photoshoots. A graduate of Boston College, Maggie is the author of Great Looks (Doubleday) and, in the few minutes of spare time she has left, is working on a book for children that has NOTHING to do with beauty.

Famed hair designer Orlando Pita was doing demonstrations on the T3 stage. Was there any surprise stylists were lining up to see the latest and greatest in design and then buying the latest and greatest in T3 products and tools?
The first person I saw on the floor of IBS was my good buddy, Nicholas French.
My favorite class at IBS was Great Lengths.
It may have been cold outside, but things were really HOT inside the ARROJO STUDIO on Varrick Street in NYC when I went to visit recently.
ARTIST SESSION kicked off in March and was, in a word, AMAZING. I would love to take all the credit for the success, but this was a total team effort.
The Professional Beauty Industry is very special in that we have living ICONS whose efforts have changed lives and created opportunities on both a consumer and professional level.
Wow. It breaks my heart. But I gotta tell ya…that chick looks great! Flawless skin, unbelievable bod…legs that go on for days! More importantly, PERFECT HAIR!!!!! Thick, dense, great color…it almost doesn’t look real!
Las Vegas…BRACE YOURSELF!!!!! The salon folk are coming!!!! We all know that this wild city has seen some wild things, but according to my cab driver…the “hair” people are the best tippers and always the most fun! Well…DUH.
My last trip of 2008 was a beaut. Wella held its Trend Vision Award presentation in Lisbon, Portugal. It was an amazing trip…not just because of the very cool location, but because I am such a sucker for these international shows!
Industrie Hair Gurus is this tasteful, well appointed, pristine salon in Ridgewood, New Jersey. It is also owned by Tabatha Coffey, the star of “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover” and “Shear Genius”.
“What’s diversion?” a beauty blogger asked me during the cocktail reception to a recent press event thrown by L’Oreal USA’s Professional Products Division (PPD) on its anti-diversion communications program.
Valencia is the third largest city in Spain, and truly breath-taking. It’s chock full of medieval and modern architecture, beautiful fountains and has the coolest “paved” river running through the center of the city to the Meditterean.
Some trips are great, some are greater and some are…….PARIS!
Do you know the expression “walk the walk”? Basically, it means “practice what you preach”. Well, the people at Aveda walk the walk, talk the talk and really really practice what they preach.
I just returned from one of the best educational hair events EVER! Aquage held its AQUAGE ACADEMY MASTERCLASS, a two day training that inspired, stimulated, educated, entertained, (feel free to throw in any good words here).
“Um, that was like the best thing ever!” said Margot as she emerged from the facial room. “That is EXACTLY what I needed,” said Kimberly as she exited her treatment room and entered the ENORMOUS locker facility to change from her thick, roomy, luscious robe into her tight Zara jeans. “Ma, can I take this robe? Look – it has a hood!”
