Solano is introducing the incredibly powerful 3700Moda dryer and productive SleekHeat 450 iron next month. They decided to throw a press event at the Arrojo Studio in NYC to show editors how to best use the new tools. Believe me...most of us NEED THIS LESSON!!!!! (I hope all you professionals know your power through your incredible knowledge and ability! Most of us ...me especially... are incredibly lame in the DIY department.)
Talk about great ideas! Naz Kupelian, owner of the Naz Kupelian Salon in Boston, offers his clients an OFFICE TO NIGHT (O2N) package that includes not just mini versions of the products needed for transformation, but the knowledge on how to recreate their hairstyles for an evening look in a "how-to" manual.
Napoleon Perdis is the very cool Australian make up artist who has created an international sensation, not just in application, but in a VERY BEAUTIFUL line of cosmetics and in education. In a very New York event, Perdis and team introduced the press to his latest collection...just in time for the fall and holiday seasons.
Something really special happened this weekend in the Pier 59 Studios in New York City. Oribe, the famed hair artist (with both the Elle and Vogue covers for September) offered the ORIBE BACKSTAGE event for 300 salon owners and stylists. More than 150 salons were represented from all across the United States and Canada.
It's early...I know...to start stocking up for the holiday client rush, but you may want to check out BLING STRANDS. These cool semi-perm (3 - 4 weeks) "knot in" sparkly strands come in 24 shades (including silver and fuchsia) and could be a perfect addition to any of your holiday designs. They are made from metallic fibers and survive "medium" heat. This is a new, fun SALON service, even though the website mentions that the client can do it herself....(no way). Check it out.
CALLING ALL SUCCESSFUL SALONS WITH OUTSTANDING BUSINESS PRACTICES!!!!!
There is always something exciting going on in the Conair Corporation, but the recent acknowledgement from the state of Connecticut is unusual, wonderful and totally worth mention.
My heart breaks every time I see a client place her purse on the floor and watch as hair or color falls in/on/around it. I just got a release about the “Clipa”, a little hook device that connects the strap of a purse, bag, briefcase, backpack or umbrella to anything elevated to keep it out of “danger”.
Some press conferences are better than others, and this one was a doozy! CND launched its new "Nail Colour & Effects" line to the New York press last week in a CND worthy all white loft in Hells Kitchen. More than 40 editors met to touch and play with the 50 news creme colours and 15 "effects" designed to layer either over or under the creme shades to achieve countless results.
Wow…talk about a shindig! Jack Panico, owner of the Panico salons of Northern, New Jersey, decided to add the new Oribe Hair Care line of products to his retail offerings and back bar mix. Instead of a simple press release, Panico decided to introduce the line in a BIG way.
I admit it…I not only live in New Jersey…but I live in FRANKLIN LAKES!!!!! For those of you who don’t understand why this is semi significant, my sweet little town has been humiliated recently as the setting on THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY.
I am on the most incredible trip with my husband and his best friend from nursery school. The friend, we’ll call him “Jeff”, has done QUITE WELL for himself since those early days in New England. Jeff invited my husband and myself to join him, his wife and another couple on a tour of Eastern Europe…via his G5! Yeah, a G5…the uber luxurious private jet that carries 12 and can fly for 14 hours without refueling.
Patrick Melville had a star studded party last week when he re-opened his Patrick Melville Salon and Spa in Rockefeller Plaza in midtown New York. I was heading there and had a mini "auto incident" which totally threw me for a loop. A boulder (okay....VERY large rock) crashed into my windshield almost killing me. I was so shaken I couldn't drive for a of couple days!
We just wrapped up another fantastic ARTIST SESSION in NYC. Nine artists from around the USA and from as far away as Hawaii (aloha Denise!) joined us for two days of intense "photo session" education. Day one began with a casting. 73 top models came to the Roberto Ligresti studio, hoping to be selected by one of the artists. It was difficult to narrow down. Each and every model was special. This bad economy is kind of working for us!
At the end of April, I visited salon owner Rose Renda at her salon in NJ. I hand-delivered a copy of Modern 05/09 which she had not seen! Rose was a participant in the first ever Artist Session. I hope you enjoy this interview and join us in the next Artist Session.
Damien Carney, International Creative Director of Joico, is a total blast! We hung out last week at the Hama Sanders studio in LA. We were shooting three models...going for the July cover. Damien was challenged with pulling off something special for our "International" issue.
I had 30 minutes left at the IBS and wanted to see some special people:
