11/1/09 - Day 3
I'm here at TREND VISION 2009, taking place at Tempelhof, the former airport terminal now used for events. And what an event this is! More than 2,000 people from 60 countries are here to cheer on 94 contestants in two categories: YOUNG TALENT COMPETITION and COLOR COMPETITION. There are also 120 members of the international press. More to come!

10/31/09 - Day 2

Maggie checking out the aerial view of Trend Vision, taking place at the old Berlin airport terminal.
Today was an action-packed, amazing day!! The entire group of competitors, which is somewhere over 90 met today at the old Berlin airport which has been transformed into a massive entertainment center. We rehersed the entire competiton and show, learning exactly how our models will be presented to the guests, and let me tell you! The choreography and animation from the competitors is outstanding! There are going to be dancers everywhere, the exciting release of the new trends, and lots of great, beautiful hair! Today I was able to chat with the Arrojo team and get a sneak peak at their show for tomorrow.. tons of eye-popping color that we have never seen put together like this before! The brilliant Sassoon team was hard at work perfecting their presentations as well. Among the other celeb stylists today, I rehearsed with Patrick Cameron who will be hosting the weekend's events...he has a way of immediately putting a smile on your face! Josh Wood was also around, with a few other officials getting ready for the judging tomorrow!
As far as the other competitors, all of the models' hair was tediously hidden under wigs, berets, scarves, and hats to make sure nobody sneaks a peek before the big reveal tomorrow! All of the stylists are incredibly friendly and sweet! It is just amazing to know that even though we may not all speak the same language, we all understand the lingo of creativity, style, and most importantly, Wella Color!
To top off a perfect day, I was honored to have dinner with a group of amazing industry wonders, including Modern's own editor Maggie Mulhern! Don't worry... great pics to come! Sorry to keep you guys waiting, but we have finishing touches to put on our eye-makeup regime! Tschuss!!

10/31/09 - Day 2
I just had lunch with the U.S. finalists, Kelly Mathys and Justine Hornick, at a fab restaurant in the former east Berlin. They are excited more than nervous.
When asked what has been the best part so far, each said that rehearsal today was the best. "Seeing it all come together was amazing," said Hornick, Young Talent finalist from Root Salon in St. Paul, MN. "I agree," said Mathys, Colorist of the Year finalist from Spalon Montage, in Woodbury, MN. "I never thought it would be so big."
I also asked each what each has learned and would pass on to future contestants. Hornick advised: "Research past competitions. Really be careful selecting your photographer. Refine your vision."
Said Mathys: "Work with a story board. Think of the whole vision in total. Think of how the fashion relates to the hair. The model must own and believe in the trend."

10/29/09 - Day 1

Hello Everyone!
We are officially in Germany! And the anticipation has paid off. Berlin is as beautiful and accommodating as I ever could have dreamed.
This morning my team (Young Talent) and the Color Master team boarded a plane from chilly Minneapolis to Berlin! Upon boarding our connecting flight out of JFK I noticed that the Arrojo models for the International Trend Vision Award show were also flying with us along with a handful of other Wella stylists ready to hit up Berlin for the big weekend. We were welcomed with billboards supporting the events and lots of warm smiles! Tonight we met with the United States Wella team for an exciting dinner and we have a packed weekend ahead!
More news from Deutschland soon!
