He is the co-owner of Paul Mitchellwhich means Angus Mitchell, son of co-founder Paul Mitchell and Artistic Director of the Paul Mitchell Schools, is a road warrior with a colorful life and a story that stylists are eager to follow. He embraced social media as a way to keep in touch with the thousands of committed Paul Mitchell hairdressers and salon owners who regard Mitchell as family and want to know how he’s keeping.
“Social media is like live and controlled reality TV for me,” says Mitchell. “It’s a great way to be able to express who you are and what your hobbies are and your intimate special moments. I get to take people on a journey with me—one day I’m in California, the next in Italy—and you can walk them through moments in your life that are meaningful, personal and help them connect to you.”
Mitchell’s fans, friends and followers have shared his joy as he wooed, won and wed his wife, Sian, and also were part of the recent announcement that they are expecting a wee-Mitchell. But Mitchell has also used social media to support the bottom line business-wise.
“Social deals, like Groupons, bring people in and also get people talking. It’s always interesting to see how it works and what people say about their experience.”
“My other hobby is cars and unlike a haircut, where you can change and create something in 45 minutes to an hour, a car takes several years to rebuild and perfect and so I take people on a journey with me as a work on a car. Building a great car is like performing a beautiful haircut in that they are sculpture and I am inspired by different time periods and eras to work in different ways with fresh results.”
