Most viral post: My most viral post has been a recent creation, a pastel pink I created during a class I was teaching. I styled it with deconstructed five-strand braids and I think the styling of the color is what put it over the edge. It gave it a very different look.

Favorite apps: I love Facetune! It helps blur out backgrounds. In my small studio there isn’t much space, so it’s so nice to be able to patch out and cover up light switches and little things that distract from a clean photo.

Favorite hashtags: #pulpriothair #modernsalon #igotbeachwaved

I follow: @kristinacheeseman @shmeggsandbacon @studio_wolf @caitlintyczka @vanessastylesyou

Pro tips: It’s all about timing! I like to pay attention to where my following lives, or who I am trying to get noticed by and post according to said timezone. I always check my favorite hashtags to see what has been posted recently to make sure that what I have will stand out.

Hidden talent (beauty-related): This isn’t really my talent, but I taught my 4-year-old how to color hair on a mannequin, and she has made some amazing creations.

Hidden talent: I am totally an amateur baker and make a mean amaretto cupcake.

How social media changed my life: First and foremost, social media helped me build my business and fill my books. Being a studio artist, I find social media so important for me because I don’t have coworkers to bounce ideas off of, so social media provided me with a huge community of artists from all over the country that have become inspirations and friends.

The first time I was featured on MODERN’s Insta: It was 4 years ago when I was first getting into Instagram, and didn’t even realize I got reposted until a few days later. How embarrassing. It was a ‘Bronde’ bob, and just a photo I had snapped of one of my clients. That was one of the most exciting feelings, it made me realize that yes, I work in a small studio in a suburb of Chicago, but anyone can be noticed in social media.
