Moroccanoil's Kevin Hughes with Bella Hadid.

Moroccanoil Artistic Director, Ambassador and Spokesperson Kevin Hughes began his career in the fashion world, which has come in handy lately as he is now a major presence at New York Fashion Week. This season he led several shows including Oscar de la Renta and Veroncia Beard, and in the past he has worked backstage for Carolina Herrera, Zac Posen and Monique Lhuillier among others. His work has graced the pages of Vogue Beauty, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Glamour, and the celebrities that have had the “Hughes-touch” include Gigi and Bella Hadid, Emily Blunt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jasmine Sanders and Bill Paxton.

Born and raised: Long Island, NY

I would love to makeover: Ariana Grande, not that she looks bad but we need something other than that ponytail.

Favorite item in my wardrobe: My vintage army boots.

If I hadn’t become a salon professional I would have: Become an Attorney…still may….you never know!

Most people would be surprised that I: I am 1 of 12 children, all from the same Mom and Dad, no twins.

My guilty pleasure: Starbucks, it must be my inner Rachael Zoe

For inspiration I:  #1 I am inspired by people that I learn from. Also, travel, old books, old and new magazines, old movies,  the streets of NY or LA, lots of inspiration there. I could people watch all day.

Best piece of advice I ever received: keep an open mind and never stop learning!

My mentor: Dawn Copertino, Long Island NY. Cool Story…. I invited Dawn to be on my team at NYFW for Oscar De La Renta. She came….she even got a hug from Bella Hadid! It was an awesome experience and I am so grateful for her.

My best vacation: Maui, I could sit on the beach and swim in the ocean all day.

Every beauty professional should: Go to as many education classes or events as possible…keep inspired!

I relax by: eating dessert in bed watching Bravo TV.

Shout out to someone who helped me along the way: Danilo

The coolest look I ever created: I would have to say the looks for a NAHA presentation we did in 2017. It was called “Dollhouse” and we used skull caps to make it appear that the models had really large foreheads and we set the wigs back, to give it a doll like feeling to the hair.

I became a salon professional because: I started to braid hair at 10 years old, then cutting hair at 11, it was something that was always inside of me and I feel so grateful I get to do that as my career.

My favorite styling trick or tip: One of my favorites is using the metal end of a tail comb to smooth any bumps or lumps in a perfect ponytail. You just run the metal end under the first layer of hair wherever there are bumps and it will blend the hair away and smooth down any lumps.

The one tool or product I use most often: Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong. Perfect hold and never flakes. My fav.

The talent I would most like to have is: Singing

The one word or phrase I overuse: the word, “literally” ….I need to stop.

My motto: Treat people the way you want to be treated!
