Few artists hold the label of hair bestie quite like Kayluh Stewart. Not only was she a winner of a MODERN-sponsored blonding competition, but she also continued to make sure she was our radar when she created an icy-cool toast coconut finish last year. Since then, Stewart has become a regular topic of MODERN office conversation and a member of our family. She continues to blow us away with her incredible finishes and her absolutely stellar positive personality. She’s just a joy to work with.

Specialty: Blonding, cool toned blondes and hair painting

Top-performing post: Toasted coconut. I think my toasted coconut blew up so quickly because people really loved the transition of dark to super icy ends! The depth made it pop and caught the eye.

Pro tip: What I’ve noticed that does best on my page is when I post a clean white background with natural outdoor lighting. I also find it’s best when the client wears a solid color shirt to make the color pop! Also, in your insights it tells you when your followers are most engaged, be sure to watch that!

Hidden talent: I actually love braiding and styling; it’s what first got me into living hair. At my salon, I’m so focused on giving the most customized and beautiful color that I often don’t have time to style fun braids and things.

My audience follows me because: I like to think my audience likes me because I’m still so new and eager to learn everything. I feel like a lot of people can relate to the whole factor of going for something when no one believed in you. I try my best to stay positive and be relatable.

How social media changed my life: Not only did it build my whole clientele, but it has also inspired me in so many ways to take chances, to learn different things, try new techniques, reach out to fellow stylists and make a relationship with them. It’s also helped me talk to brands. Not to mention the recognition that I’ve received from social media; it’s really made me believe in myself and push myself harder every single day. I’ve met so many amazing friends, clients and connections through social media. I don’t remember what life was like before it!

My first @modernsalon feature: The first time that I was featured on MODERN SALON was two years ago. I entered a contest with Keune and MODERN. I remember the day I found out I made it into top 10. I was crying so much I couldn’t even go to work that day. I know that sounds crazy, but I’m a very emotional person and I had a lot against me at that point. I had been licensed for just a few months and had no idea what I was getting myself into. When I found out I won the contest, I was beside myself. MODERN wrote an entire article about me, and it is still one of my most prized moments to be recognized by the community as an artist like that!
