Most viral post: my first blonde foilayage client after coming back from my 4 day 901 academy class. I think people liked it so much because the picture had really good lighting, and the blonde was bright and melty. Who doesn’t love a bright, melty blonde?
Favorite apps: I love Snapseed for basic editing, and Facetune for smoothing skin or nixing and errant hair. But for the most part, I don’t edit my photos at all. My goal is to present a very attainable look without and smoke and mirrors.
Favorite hashtags:#modernsalon (of course!!) I love the sense of community. You know you can always click on it and find like minded people and great inspiration. I always throw a local hashtag in too. You want the people who live near you to see your work!
I follow: I am currently obsessed with @justinemarjan. She always posts great tips and always uses cool hair accessories.
Tip to get best results on a post: I am very picky about what I post. I won’t just post every single picture I take. But when I find a picture I love, it’s the right angle, lighting, pose, background. I take a TON of pictures from every angle to make sure I have the perfect one. Always go outside in the shade. I’ve gotten some of my best photos that way! If you don’t have access to that, then a ring light with a neutral background is great too!
Hidden talent: I’m really into doing hair for photo shoots and fashion shows. I’ve worked with Orlando Pita and Odile Gilbert. I thrive on the energy of fashion collaboration!
Hidden talent (beauty-related):I’ve been playing the piano and singing since i was kid. I’m not sure how good I am, but it’s something I enjoy
How social media changed my life: social media has been a good and bad thing at the same time. It has been a great source of inspiration, but also can also make you feel like you’re not good enough. I try to focus on learning something and supporting other stylists. Instagram in particular has really helped me build my clientele. It’s pretty much my online portfolio.
The first time I was featured on MODERN’s Insta: I made a silly meme that said “first I do the coffee, then I do the hair”. I think it was super relatable since we pretty much live on coffee!
