Most viral post: My most viral post was my “H2-T0NING” video. Using a tub filled with water, I whisked violet and blue non-oxidative vivid colors. I dipped warm, level 9 tape-in extensions into the water to quickly tone the hair without chemicals. This toned the hair to a perfect icy white, ready for a perfect vivid application! The color wheel is really magical, and people loved the quick and easy transformation!
Favorite apps: Piclay: Great for editing photos, especially for a cool “before and after” because I love the “blend” tool to blur the two side-by-side pictures. Pocket Video: Excellent for editing videos! It’s so customizable and the editing tools on this application are so wonderful. I can speed up or slow down clips, trim clips, add music and sound effects, or even record my own voice over the clips. It’s so advanced for a phone editing program! Word Swag: I just like this app for making worded posts, such as announcing a salon special or model call.

Pro tips: Undoubtedly, creating quality content for social media takes a lot of time, planning and practice. The photography is the most important part. We use a white brick backdrop to create a clean, neutral background and two ring lights to illuminate the subject. I usually keep a brush and some light hold hair spray to refine each shot, and I take about 50 photos per client, just to get 3 or 4 really post-able ones. Hashtags are important, but I’ve noticed that my follower’s engagement, requires me to reply to the comments to keep the photo high on the algorithm.
Hidden talent (beauty-related): I’m a strong braider! I was even nominated for a braiding award. I don’t always have the time or energy to whip out a complicated style on a freshly colored client, but I really enjoy styling!
Hidden talent: This isn’t exactly a “talent”, but I’m actually an ordained reverend! I got my license a few years ago to be able to marry a couple that I’m friends with, and now I perform 3-5 weddings a year, usually for friends and clients!
How social media changed my life: I never imagined the impact that social media could have on my business. From getting local clients (which translates into money), to generating a large social media following (which translates into sponsorships and eventual money), platforms like Instagram have allowed me to advertise for free and become a fully booked stylist with projects that I can be picky about what I want to take on.
The first time I was featured on MODERN’s Insta: I honestly can’t remember the first time I was featured on MODERN SALON. I have a very specific niche, and either you love neons or you don’t, but it’s exciting to see how much more mainstream fashion colors are, so I’m hoping for more features!
