Pro tips: I think people are looking for a whole person to follow. This means that the content has to be not only educational, inspirational, aesthetically pleasing, but has to come with an interesting narrative. I have heard the golden rule is that people buy from people they like. If followers can get to know the individual as a whole and find them likable, it is easier for them to be engaged in their work as well. People want to feel connected and like can relate.
Hidden talent (beauty-related): I can do a killer blow-dry set and perfect ponytail. I did a lot of classes for editorial styling and worked backstage a fashion week before I became more known for color and hair cut.
Hidden talent: Traveling with a child. Soon after I started teaching and traveling I became pregnant with my son. I taught across country all the way through my pregnancy and then returned to the road life when he was 5 months old. I took him everywhere till he was almost 2 years old. He still goes on some trips if I think it would be a fun adventure for him, and now I am due any day with my second child. The circus is about to get that much more interesting!
How social media changed my life: Social Media made it possible for me to start my own independent education brand. If I had wanted to be an educator before Instagram I would have had to work under a brand/ academy and teach their method. Now I have the platform to create my own techniques and connect with potential students without a major company backing me or controlling my work. This completely changed the industry as a whole!
The first time I was featured on MODERN’s Insta: I can’t remember the first time, but I do remember one of my models from a class I taught in Dallas, Texas, got reposted. It was a before and after of my signature #DiamondPaintBalayage technique, in which I do a full foliayage for a maximum lift in one session lived in blonde look. This particular version was toned with a lavender gloss which trendy and hard to achieve.
