Inspired by the powerful, intense queens and princesses seen on Game of Thrones (GoT), Hasblady Guzman, celebrity hair stylist and owner of Bokaos Salon in Pasadena, California, decided to capture the meaning of strength and beauty with hair.
"You know how the princess in almost every movie is pretty but helpless? Helpless in a tower, helpless in a castle, helpless asleep waiting for the prince to come rescue her...I hate that! I believe a woman can be strong and elegant, powerful and beautiful, gentle yet dangerous," she says. "We need a new vision of the princess: she should be a powerful woman who still holds exceptional sensuality and grace, no matter what. All the women on GoT are beautiful, but often very dangerous. I imagine my princess is the one that rescues the prince, not the other way around. She is strong, smart and knows what she wants."
For the GoT fans it’s no secret that the women in season six are getting ready to take over the world. For Guzman, she likes that they are shown in a very feminine way, but there's also a great confidence in them to be powerful and dominate without taking on masculine qualities.
"Even the princesses like Sansa Stark are becoming powerful and gaining strength without losing their elegance. I want ALL women to be strong, never waiting for anyone to give them permission to be powerful," says Guzman.
GET THE LOOKS:
To create these looks, Guzman used Sharon Blain sponges on her models because she wanted to create architectural structure within their hair.
STYLING: I used a variety of Aveda products and styling tools including Spray Shine, Air Control, Firmata Hair Spray, Pure Abundance Hair Potion and Anti-humectant along with a little starch to make the hair more durable. She also used large barrel curling irons and cone-shaped Enzo wands to create texture and volume.
COLOR: I used Shades by Redken. "On Sami, my red-headed model, I used 6aa (Bonfire) on top and 3a (Terracotta) on the underneath portion of her hair to give it depth. On Melanie, I did 5cb (Brownstone) at her base and for her ends I used 9rb (Blush). On my third model, Crystal, I used 1b (Onyx) and her highlights were 9b (Sterling)."
In this collection, Guzman's GoT looks are soft, feminine and sexy, but at the same time, they appear dangerous and powerful.
"Every women needs to see herself as a strong queen. Be a princess who is smart, powerful and not afraid of a little danger. Don’t be afraid to take what you want and don’t wait for someone to bring it to you! Take your strength and beauty in hand, always!" she says.
