The Gypsy Bazaar is a pop-up beauty boutique based in L.A. We came upon this whimsical, bohemian photo on their Instagram page. The models’ texturized, neon colored locks are both a little out-there, while being simultaneously cool and relaxed. We wanted to know how these looks were achieved.

“A lot of my inspiration comes from a variety of cultures merged into one; add a vintage flare and you've got my aesthetic,” says Michelle Borbolla, owner of The Gypsy Bazaar. “For the shoot we just did, I wanted it to have a grunge-gypsy feel that was really colorful but still kept an edgy vibe.”

Both models had existing dry color processed hair. It was prepped using Kevin Murphy’s Fresh hair in order to remove excess oils and provide texture.

To style, Borbolla took large sections, sprayed them with Kevin Murphy Hair Resort, then loosely curled the hair with an Enzo Milano Flat Iron. Once the whole head was curled, she sprayed more Hair Resort on the curls to break them up and make them a bit messier.

Then, Kevin Murphy Powder Puff was used on the crown to add a bit more grit and volume.

“For the pink haired model, I took a square section from her crown and used a small amount of Kevin Murphy Easy Rider before braiding,” Borbolla says. “I did a Dutch fishtail braid directed towards her face and sprayed again with some Hair Resort before pulling it apart. I tucked and pinned the remaining braid behind her ear.”

“The second model was prepped the same way. Taking a section at her nape, I used Easy Rider again and braided a fishtail braid. Sprayed it with Hair Resort, then pulled apart. For her second braid, I took a rectangular section behind her bangs at her crown and began braiding a Dutch fishtail braid using Easy Rider. About five inches in, I continued with a regular fishtail braid. Sprayed with Hair Resort and pulled apart.”

Both looks were finished with Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine.
