CURLY BRUNETTE: “For the cut we started by razoring off the length to the intended line. A panel underneath was then cut to remove weight, disconnecting the top and bottom adding a lot of loose movement. For the rest of the look, we took vertical sections and cut a square concave layer, finishing with a twist cutting technique to add texture. This model’s color was a combo of different warm browns all the same level using the Paul Mitchell block color technique "braids." To style, we used a medium-sized Paul Mitchell ion round brush for extra body finish. Then using a 1-inch curling iron, curl the hair using vertical sections leaving out the top.” —Jake Khan
MEN'S STYLE: “Start out by using a razor over comb technique on the side and back panels. This helps achieve a short, but still soft, feel. Through the top, use a Bias cutting technique, taking criss cross sections and cutting a steep line from short to long. This gives the client a lot of options for style. Finish with a deep point cutting technique to remove some weight and add texture.” — Joshua McMichen
SHORT BLONDE: “We used Wella Professionals Blondor 20-volume to lighten the hair to a Level 10. Then we used Paul Mitchell PM Shines 9-volume on wet hair for 10 minutes to tone to pearl/lavender/ white. For the cut, we used a scissor over comb technique and for the sides which created short square graduation. The back was cut into a round graduated shape using the square sides as a guide. Finally the top was held up square to the ceiling and point cut through. The look was styled using Paul Mitchell tea tree shaping cream.” —Jake Khan
LONG HAIR: “For the color we used Wella Professionals Blondor, mixing a 10- and 20-volume developer to get a rough 15. For the lowlights and base we used a Wella Professionals 55/0 10-volume. Both placed at a horizontal weave. Finally, we toned with a Wella Professionals 9/03 for a more beige blonde. For her hair cut, we took a diagonal section starting at the front of the head working to the back, cutting a short to long line. That gave us a classic forward graduated layer framing the face. To style, we took a 1 and ½-inch curling iron and set the hair horizontally on the base. Then using a Paul Mitchell 413 dressing brush, and fingers, we brushed out the set creating a messy version of the Old Hollywood wave.” —Jake Khan
