Davenport and the other self-described “Barbettes” at Groom for Men are dual-licensed barbers and cosmetologists. “We do facial hair sculpting, straight razor shaves and we also offer classes for professionals on how to perform the straight razor shave service.“ Davenport uses the Oster line of clippers and trimmers and the Monsieur Charles Straight Razor.
To begin the beard, Davenports consults with men on their daily grooming habit to learn about their current shave regimen and about how much time they like to put in their image. Then, she helps them discover a beard design that will work for them and offers these tips for growing it out:
Continue a regular shave routine, shaving around the beard design and keeping the cheeks and chin line clean. “You don’t want a ‘neck beard’.”
Keep facial hair moisturized and conditioned.
Most guys don’t want a huge regimen so choose a shave medium (cream, gel, oil) and an after-shave moisturizer. “For soap-and-water men, the Moisturizing Shave is good and works with a variety of beard textures and types.”

For men with sensitive skin, Davenport recommends American Crew Ultra Glide Shave Oil. It can even be used on the scalp because it's composed of essential oils, avocado oil and it absorbs quickly.
For a more detailed beard design and style, Davenport recommends applying a little Ultra Glide Shave Oil to prep and then shaving with Precision Shave Gel. “It’s good for elaborate beards because you can see through to what is happening under the product.”
And for all men, post-shave, splash cold water and apply the Post Shave Cooling Lotion.
