Wig work allows hair artists incredible flexibility, giving professionals an opportunity to cut, color and style without boundaries. It is always impressive to see how the MODERN community uses talent to go extreme or hold back to create beautiful finishes. For this collection, Christopher Dove offers his view of the hair of the future, inspired by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Dove, along with The Doves team, created many of the wigs for the film.

It’s unusual when a salon owner/platform artist/global spokesperson/celebrity stylist can find the time to also create wigs for a film. But Christopher Dove, co-owner of The Doves Studio in Santa Monica, California and Top Artist for Wella Professionals and Hairdreams, couldn’t resist when Linda Flowers, Hair Designer and Department Head, invited Dove and his team to create wigs for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Under Flowers direction, Dove and his team of 10 created more than 200 wigs for the film. They spent several months working hundreds of hours to perfect the pieces. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second in The Hunger Games trilogy. “It is set in the future,” says Dove, “I was asked to come up with some ideas about how the people in the main city, the Capitol, would look. The very wealthy residents are quite individual, but fighting to stand out.”
With this information as inspiration, Dove got busy. After the movie wrapped, while the rest of the team got back to salon work, Dove couldn’t stop creating The Hunger Games wigs. He continued to design looks he thought would still work in the film and for women in the future. “It’s all about interesting shapes and colors that have mixed textures and multiple shades. Texture on top of texture, color on top of color. The looks are more couture than avant garde.” To learn more about the wig creation and color formulas, visit modernsalon. com and search “Hunger Games."
