One of the winners (for Best Color Transformation) of the Paul Mitchell ProfessionalColor Outside the Lines Hair Color Challenge, Madison, WI-based Kelly Rettenberger (@kellyrettenberger) had a salon client who wanted to be lighter but still believable.

“Alyse was looking to brighten up and get a more natural look,” Rettenberger explains.  “At her first visit, I focused on color balancing her canvas to remove previous color and added a few babylights to brighten (and in all honesty to make sure that her processed, fine hair was strong enough for a little lightening).

"This second visit was all about brightening up and achieving a low maintenance, yet still lovely look.”

HOW-TO

STEP ONE: Babylights were placed around the face with Paul Mitchell Professional Synchrolift  20vol

STEP TWO: The remaining hair was hand painted with Paul Mitchell Skylight 40vol, leaving out random sections to keep depth.

STEP THREE: After processing to a level 8/9,  I used The Demi on towel dried hair to color melt.
