Two featured looks, Expression Brunette and Obsession Blonde, address clients’ interest in dimensional color that grows out gracefully. Created by Miami Beach stylist and colorist Mike Sharkey, both emphasize intentional brightness, soft transitions and manageable maintenance.

Meet the Colorist: Mike Sharkey

A stylist and colorist at Peter Alexander Salon in Miami Beach, Sharkey brings three decades of salon experience to Satin Sessions. His background includes eight years with Revlon, where he served first as U.S. Education Manager and later as Global Director of Education, training colorists and setting creative standards across international markets.

His approach begins with a thorough consultation and balances technical precision with an understanding of how clients want to wear—and maintain—their hair. That perspective informs both Satin Sessions looks.

“Lived-in looks aren’t a trend,” Sharkey says. “It’s now a classic.”

Expression Brunette: Rich Depth with Intentional Brightness

Expression Brunette pairs a deep brunette base with soft caramel and golden honey pieces for movement and light-catching warmth. Sharkey focused on face-framing brightness, a defined money piece and a seamless blend while preserving the richness of the brunette.

“Less is more for the brunette,” he says. “Brunettes don’t want to be blonde, so highlighting has to be intentional.”

For the highlights, Sharkey used Satin Hair Color’s SilverLift Lightening Powder. According to the brand, the lightener provides seven-plus levels of lift while helping neutralize orange and brassy undertones during processing. A root shadow and 8N toner complete the color, followed by Satin ColorLock Shampoo and Conditioner.

Expression Brunette Formula and Technique

Lightener: Satin Hair Color SilverLift Lightening Powder
Developer: 25-volume developer, created by blending 20- and 30-volume developer
Toner: Satin Hair Color 8N
Finish: Satin Hair Color ColorLock Shampoo and Conditioner

  1. Begin at the nape. Place three diagonal-back woven teasylight foils following the hairline, using the lightener and developer formula above.
  2. Build the face frame. Place three diagonal-back woven teasylight foils following the hairline in front of each ear. Add one slice teasylight at the front hairline to define the money piece, then finish with two back-to-back woven teasylights for blending.
  3. Shadow and tone. Rinse, apply a root shadow to diffuse the base, then tone with Satin Hair Color 8N.
  4. Cleanse and condition. Finish with Satin Hair Color ColorLock Shampoo and Conditioner.

Obsession Blonde: Soft Dimension With a Bright Face Frame

Obsession Blonde translates the same lived-in philosophy into a soft, multidimensional blonde. A full head of woven, teased highlights creates brightness throughout, while a money piece brings emphasis to the face.

“It’s a soft, multi-dimensional, sun-kissed blonde that reflects what clients are looking for in the salon today,” Sharkey says. “This look feels effortless, grows out easily and doesn’t require a lot of maintenance.”

Sharkey again selected SilverLift Lightening Powder, using herringbone, pivoting and horizontal foil placements to build the look.

“I was impressed with how much it minimized orange and warm undertones,” he says. “I liked the texture and the lift it gave; I didn’t see those warmer tones come through.”
