Emily Eaton of Tyler Mason Salon and Spa in Indianapolis, IN created a holiday updo with elegant, melting color and poinsettia inspired curls.

"When I think of traditional holiday looks I think of romantic updos, classic curls and rich color," said Emily Eaton (@emilywillcutyou) of Tyler Mason Salon and Spa in Indianapolis, IN. "For this image I wanted to incorporate all of those timeless styles, but with a young, modern spin. I can't get enough of the fun color trend we've seen in the industry, so adding bright, non-traditional color to a holiday style was my starting point for this look."
Eaton drew inspiration from poinsettia plants for the color and style of this holiday look. Noticing that poinsettias can be seen in all kinds of fun colors, not just the traditional red, she decided to be bold with her client's hair color, including a light red, an icy blue and a nature inspired green. She used a technique called Flamboyage created by Davines, which uses meche strips instead of foil to create intense depth, dimension and vibrant color.
For the style, Eaton drew from the shape of the poinsettia plant and created a tall updo that incorporates classic holiday curls in an unconventional way. She used Davines Volumizing Mousse to get it dramatically big before blow drying, then doused the roots with Davines Hair Refresher to add some texture and incorporated a hairpiece base for height. She curled small pieces and molded them using Davines Medium Hold Pliable Paste to mimic the curvature and layers of the poinsettia petals. She finished with Davines Strong Hold Hairspray and Oil to smooth flyaways and add terrific shine.
Though winter makeup can often be dark and rich, Eaton didn’t want the face to detract from the subtle melting of color in the hair, so she kept it traditional with a soft smokey eye and sweet pink lip to incorporate some classic beauty and romanticism.
