As salons continue looking for ways to offer experiences clients can’t easily recreate at home, customizable sparkle hair enhancements are emerging as a creative new add-on service behind the chair.

One brand helping drive the trend is VanStrands, a sparkle hair extension system created by Pacific Northwest colorist and salon owner Samantha “Bee Sam” Borenheim. Designed to blend with services like highlights, balayage, blonding, dimensional color, wigs, and extensions, VanStrands introduces shimmer, movement, and customizable detail to everyday salon looks.

“Nothing can or should replace the artistry and personalization that happens inside a salon,” says Borenheim. “I wanted to create something that helps stylists showcase their creativity in a way clients can’t get from a box kit or an app.”

The sparkle extension system was developed to help salons introduce a trend-forward service that feels artistic, customizable, and highly visual for both clients and social media content.

VanStrands can be tailored to different hair colors, tones, lengths, textures, and styles, allowing stylists to create everything from soft reflective dimension to more expressive editorial-inspired looks.

“VanStrands are more than just sparkle extensions,” says Bee Sam. “They allow stylists to push creativity further while giving clients something expressive, fashionable, and confidence boosting that feels completely unique to them.”

The lightweight strands are fused into the hair using micro-beads and can be customized with decorative jewel or charm embellishments. According to Bee Sam, the service works especially well as an enhancement layered into blonding, dimensional color, extensions, and special occasion styling.

From weddings and photoshoots to festivals and everyday glam, the trend reflects clients’ growing interest in personalization and statement-making beauty services.

For salons, it also represents something larger: creating experiences that feel artistic, hands-on, customized, and difficult to duplicate outside the professional salon environment.
