“The inspiration for our shoot was born by wanting to embrace beautiful, strong and powerful women,” says Jaimee Harris Smith, senior education manager for The Salon by InStyle/JCP Salon. “We wanted to create versatile hair that is good for daytime and for evening.”

Smith along with five members of the The Salon by InStyle/JCP Salon National Artistic Team, used different techniques to accentuate the style. The artists wanted to show that there is really something for everyone.

“It’s all about pumping up natural beauty,” Smith says. “We enter just about every situation with a goal to enhance natural shape, color and texture.”

Smith and the team of Miguelina Mejia and Amberle Kerkstra, and Brendnetta Ashley, Darcy Falls and Kellie Ferraro developed a mood board incorporating each member’s ideas. It turns out they were seeing texture in
all different forms. They love texture and movement for energy, balanced with different shapes and silhouettes.

For this session the artists chose to take their models from day to night, starting with a more consumer-friendly first look before building to a more dramatic evening finish.

“With extensions, the possibilities are endless,” Smith says. “Color is huge and can be used to enhance, build and go brighter.”

The team used extensions on both models saying most of their clients love to add a pop of color without commitment. “It’s all about giving that professional touch with products and tools,” Smith adds.
