Why You NEED to Boost Your Bridal Updo Business

This month, as summer brides start counting their RSVPs and finalizing their seating arrangements, they’re also making their way into the salon for hair and makeup trials. Wowing her with your talent  and special occasion expertise  will equal big business—soon she will bring her entire bridal party of bridesmaids, flowergirls, mother-of-the-bride and future mother-in-law into the salon for picture-perfect primping on the big day.

Kenra’s To Have and to Hold collection featured here pays mind to the total look—from lash enhancements and perfectly polished nails, her timeless updo and flawless makeup—and Kenra Professional educator Mirella Hullum didn’t forget the gents, either. It’s all about polish and perfection.

At her trial, encourage your client to bring any jewelry, hair accessories or a veil that she plans to wear to help bring the total vision to life (As Randy from TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress says, “‘jack her up' to close the deal!”). As you work your magic, take a step back for a 360-degree view of the updo’s structure. Ask the bride how she’s feeling about the look so far. Encouraging feedback before the style is completed will be the most efficient way to ensure her satisfaction (and her return business!).

If your bride ends up requesting you on-location, make sure to pack everything you could possibly need. “Don’t leave anything at the salon thinking, ‘I’ll never need this,’ because chances are you will,” Hullum says. “Bring a hair net, body tape, and a bazillion bobby pins. And make sure to stay really calm. Provide that great experience. Allow the bride to enjoy the whole experience.”

Before she leaves your chair, make sure to see if any hair is pulling too tight or if any bobby pins are painful. Show her how you secured her hair accessories or veil so she can remove it after the ceremony or at the end of the evening. And don’t forget the most important accessory of them all—a great firm-hold finishing spray to ensure her style lasts well into the night. Kenra’s best-selling humidity-resistant product, Volume Spray, was used to create and perfect the looks featured on both the bride and groom.
