NAHA 2010 Finalists Announced!
The Professional Beauty Association, organizers of the North American Hairstyling Awards, has announced this year’s finalists for the prestigious, photo-based NAHA competition. Vying for the title of North American Hairstylist of the Year are Steve Elias, Shirley Gordon, Shawna Parvin, Tony Ricci and Atoine Vadacchino. Finalists in nine other NAHA categories were also announced, with Makeup and Salon MBA categories still to come.
The Premiere Orlando International Beauty Event
The Premiere Orlando International Beauty Event sets the stage again June 5 to 7. The show will feature an abundance of educational opportunities where novices to seasoned veterans can learn first-hand tips, tricks and secrets of the pros.

There are 27 different types of naturally occurring collagen in the body. As the hair is part of our body, the loss of collagen is mostly a factor of aging. Once we pass our late 20's our bodies have less collagen. Hair exposed to the natural elements as well as chemical treatments like coloring, bleaching and straightening always could use something to bring it back to life. When I was at America's Beauty Show, one of the product lines I tried out was Rejuvenol. Their Pure Collagen Treatment System left my hair feeling great all day, and even all week long.

ABS...What a Great Show!
Many wonderful things took place at ABS, but Maggie Mulhern's interviews with salon celebrities was a highlight. Conversations with Kim Vo, Nick Arrojo, Beth Minardi, Anthony Mascolo, Ruth Roche, and special guest Dr. Gary Smotrich earned standing room only crowds at the Modern Salon Media booth.
Embracing Textured Hair at ABS
MODERN'S Texture! event featured eight panelists who offered information on trends, techniques and education for textured hair. All of the panelists agreed that women with textured hair should be proud and embrace their each and every curl! Laurel Nelson, MODERN's Editor; and Michelle Breyer, founder of NaturallyCurly.com, moderated the discussion and Q & A.

The first seminar event that I visited at ABS was the annual Salon Spa Sustainability Summit on Saturday, which was co-sponsored by Pureology. The pointers for living a green life and running a sustainable business covered an amazing range of topics.

OMG! You guys!! I got hair extensions!!! AHH!!! OK. I know what you're thinking. "Alison, you have long hair—why on Earth do you need hair extensions?!" Here's the thing: I never ever thought I could benefit from extensions, but honestly, my hair has never looked better! It's fuller, it's longer, it's just as shiny and it's fabulous!!
