The American Crew All-Star Challenge highlights the outstanding world class talents in men’s grooming. The competition combines the art and science of men’s grooming and creating authentic style – the cut, the model and the photograph – to deliver the ultimate interpretation of the American Crew man.
Fifteen finalists recently competed in Brussels with two days of competition photo shoots on May 4 and 5, during which each cut and styled their model, then worked with American Crew Founder David Raccuglia to shoot and select the photo that would represent their final look. Adam Mir of the UK was announced as the American Crew 2016-2017 All-Star Challenge Global Winner on May 8th in a joint event with Revlon Style Masters.
Meet the Canadian finalist, Hassan Nasser:
Describe your career path as a stylist.
I come from a family of hairstylists - my mother, my father, uncles, you name it. As a child, I spent numerous hours walking around the salon, watching my family do what they do best. The inspiration and passion started at a very young age, when I received the opportunity to cut my very first client’s hair when I was 11 years old. Not only was the client satisfied, but I was fascinated how I was able to change their outlook and spirit with a simple haircut. My journey as a hairstylist started with the fantastic opportunity to enroll in a one-year training in a renowned school, James Albert School of Cosmetology in Newport Beach, California. After the completion of my 1-year program in Newport, I moved back to Calgary and joined my dad at the Avalon Salon. I have now been working and managing Avalon salon for 7 years and have achieved a long list of accomplishments including: Miss Universe Canada 2013 and American Crew Canadian All-Star Challenge Winner 2016. I was also the first person ever to place both 1st and 2nd in the American Crew All-Star Challenge in Canada.
Do you have any influences from your life that motivate and inspire you artistically?
My motivation comes from being the best at what I do. If I put my mind to something, I will pour my heart and soul into it. Never settling for anything less than my best.
What do you love most about being a stylist?
The amount of love and trust you receive from your clients.
How has American Crew influenced the way you view men’s grooming?
American Crew has helped me bring my own vision of men’s grooming to life. American Crew not only portrays men’s grooming, but it demonstrates a man’s lifestyle -- simple, classy, and sophisticated. What does the American Crew All-Star Challenge mean to you? Proving to the world that I can compete with the best, and one day be the best.
