Deep breathing is a simple, but very effective, method of relaxation. And it’s quick! You can easily practice this in between sessions. Just take a minute to yourself in a quiet part of the spa, then take a couple of deep breaths, allowing your body to relax further with each breath. Simple!

Progressive Muscular Relaxation

Progressive Muscular Relaxation is useful for relaxing your body when your muscles are tense – not an uncommon occurrence in your day-to-day life at work. Here’s how to do it: move through the body, tensing each group of muscles as tightly as possible. Hold for a few seconds, then relax the muscles normally. Follow that by relaxing them even further, to achieve an even deeper state of relaxation. Experiment with this by forming a fist and clenching your hand as tight as you can for a few seconds. Relax the hand, then consciously relax it again so that it is as loose as possible.

The Relaxation Response

If you have more than a few moments between appointments, you can practice this relaxation exercise. It brings on deep relaxation, as well as a slowed heartbeat and breathing, reduced oxygen consumption and increased skin resistance.

Just follow these steps:

* Sit quietly and comfortably.

* Close your eyes.

* Breathe in deeply and then let your breath out. Count your breaths, and say the number of the breath as you let it out (this gives you something to do with your mind, helping you to avoid distraction).

Do this for ten or twenty minutes.

Not only does relaxing and centering yourself between appointments help your stress level, it also helps you give your guests the very best treatments they can get. So do it for yourself and your business!
