Her shifting styles have been pretty hair-raising in the past but Britney Spears' most recent hair transition is receiving rave reviews from onlookers. After years as a blonde, the diva emerged at an Oscar night party looking cool and elegant, thanks to her new, rich, chestnut hue.

“Any time your client requests a tintback from pale blonde to a dark shade, be prepared to perform a double process service,” says Papanikolas. “Step one is to fill the hair in order to restore the missing, underlying pigment. My ‘go-to’ filler formula is Joico Vero K-PAK Chrome RC8/Orange Crush. Apply the formula to dry hair and process five to 10 minutes. The result will be quite orange, but tell your client not to panic. Better yet, don’t let her see her hair at this stage!” After processing, George advises rinsing and “rough drying” the hair and then applying the formula that will produce the target shade. “For Britney’s chestnut shade,” he says, “I would use Joico Vero K-PAK Chrome ½ N6/Caramel + ½ N8/Teak. Apply roots to ends and process 20 minutes.”
