When you think about quality styling tools, Olivia Garden, the tool company known for high quality brushes and shears, has aced the game. The brand is evolving and has moved into the appliance business with vigor. Most exciting for the brand is their new hero, the 1” Professional Titanium + Ion Flat Iron which now joins Olivia Garden’s Ceramic + Ion Flat Iron which was launched in July 2019.

“What makes this different are the titanium plates that work magically on thicker, coarser hair,” Olivia Garden co-owner Anne Maza says. “Titanium is more aggressive and gives more oomph. The professional hairdresser wants it because it’s great for those challenging hair types.” The iron features additional tension and dual-ceramic plates meant to tame even the most stubborn textures of hair including kinky and coil-y. “The goal is to put healthier, shinier strands in the hands of stylists everywhere, regardless of their client’s texture.”
Jorge Pilatos, co- owner of Pilatos Hair Salon, NYC, and educator for the brand, says the 11 digital temperature settings and instant heat-up and recovery capabilities make this an essential tool for his tightly curled and strongly textured clients. “It’s not just the titanium that makes the difference, but the fact that the blades allow for more tension. Plus, the thumb rest is ergonomic designed for a better fit allowing a stronger grip. It gives me more styling options.” Even with the most difficult textures, Pilatos says he rarely needs more than one pass to create his desired style.

Jaime Pilatos uses the new Olivia Garden 1" Titanium flat iron to put the finishing touch on his model after demonstating a perfect bridal look at MODERN's Artist Session Collection Edition. Here he is with partner Jorge Pilatos.
“The Titanium + Ion Flat Iron is precisely designed to tackle tough straightening challenges,” Cherry Petenbrink, Artistic Director for Olivia Garden, says. “The result will be super smooth, straight and shiny hair, no matter how thick or coarse. Best of all, there is a variety of heat settings, so, no matter your type of hair, you can use the perfect temperature!”
The iron was included in the goody bag in MODERN’s Artist Session Collection Edition and was a hit with the hairdressers in attendance. For Constance Robbins, an Olivia Garden fan from the git-go, it was the heat pouch that kind of pushed her over the edge. “Yes, this iron is fantastic,” Robbins said while looking it over, “but from a hairdresser point of view, this pouch is amazing. There is nothing worse than putting a hot tool in your kit. I’ve burned so many things and to think I can throw the iron in to pouch while it’s still hot is a game changer.” When she learned of the extra-long and heat resistant cord, she just shook her head in gratitude. “This was obviously made by someone who knows what the hairdresser needs.”

QUOTES FROM ARTIST SESSION ATTENDEES ON THE OLIVIA GARDEN GOODY BAG:
Constance Robbins: Olivia Garden was beyond generous in their swag bag to the Modern Salon Artist Session Collection Edition artists. My favorite tool, hands down was the titanium flat iron. The colors I used in my collection were all metallic pastels and needed to be finished straight for the inspiration. Normally when ironing delicate color you are at risk of burning the color out of the hair. The Olivia Garden iron perfectly straightened the hair without changing the color at all! On top of that, the handle is so comfortable in your hand that after ironing three separate looks my hand still felt great. It’s my new favorite flat iron for sure!
Rusty Phillips: I love the Olivia Garden bag! Their brushes are the best and I especially liked the flat iron. It’s sleek and smooths the hair out perfectly. The clips are also fabulous and ingenious and I can’t say enough about the scissors and thinners - simply amazing. They are so sharp and the perfect size. I will be using everything – it’s the perfect goody bag.
Sabrena Handley: I absolutely love the flat iron. I used it a lot today and am planning on doing a video tutorial with it. The slide and the handle are just easy to use. You don't have to use a lot of pressure with it. It glides through the hair so easily making for a beautiful shiny hair strand.
