Martin Chairez is an international educator for Joico International who believes that everything in his life involves beauty in every sense. “At this moment in my life I believe that beauty involves good feelings and being positive in every way, because exterior beauty is totally connected with inner beauty, so today I meditate whenever I have a chance, if I am getting ready for a hair show, a workshop or a trend class,“ says Chairez with a subtle, charming Spanish accent. And, he spends lots of time planning special educational events for each country on his busy itinerary including Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Peru, and Uruguay, all far and distant from his hometown of Juarez, Chihuahua, on the border with El Paso, Texas.
Carlos Valenzuela
It was Martin’s mother who suggested he consider a career in hairdressing. “I never planned on being a hairdresser, but now I love it because it gives me the freedom to create what I want,” says Chairez. “My first teacher was David Nodal, his dedication to teaching was so great, especially because he was a so methodical and a perfectionist. Then I had a great moment when I worked with Carlos Valenzuela doing a show in my city in Mexico and right then I decided to become a platform artist.”

Like all busy people, Martin uses the power of positive thinking to keep abreast with his demanding travel schedule and personal life. Martin’s motivation is to see everyone’s face satisfied with his work.
I asked his advice for someone who would like to do what he does: “Never quit. Be persistent. Never stop learning, knowledge is never enough.”

I, on the other hand, was totally unaware of inspiring Martin to become an educator. I was moved and grateful. My takeaway was that we just never know whose day we make better, whose burden we lighten. Salon professionals touch so many people’s lives in such an unassuming manner, we don’t have a degree in psychology, nor do we claim to, but we do have a heart that listens.
