Clients can choose from a wide range of color enlivening services, including highlights, glossing, dimensional color and gray blending. Matrix will support the event with additional staff members and fun product samples. All stylists will use Matrix hair color—including SoColor and Color Sync.
According to Best Lil Hair House Owner Laurie Schneider, the group chose the Bastrop Pregnancy Resource Center as the Color-A-Thon beneficiary because the small and relatively new organization has been overshadowed at times by all of the fundraisers that have been held since the serious September 2011 fire. “We felt that our event would be able to raise enough money to make a difference for the Pregnancy Resource Center,” she says. Schneider also reveals that while Color-A-Thon guests will donate to the Pregnancy Resource Center, victims of the Bastrop fire will be invited to receive free color services.
Sue Long, a Best Lil Hair House client and occasional volunteer at the Pregnancy Resource Center, brought the organization to Schneider’s attention. “This is an organization where women of all ages can come and get information on pregnancy and adoption, along with counseling in a very loving and non-judgmental environment,” Long explains. “It’s also a resource for baby food, clothing, furniture, diapers—anything a mother needs.”
The Austin Color-A-Thon is part of an ongoing series of Chairs of Change events nationwide. Chairs of Change is an initiative, launched by Matrix in January 2011, that empowers, inspires, and rewards hair stylists who are making an impact on their own lives, their communities, and in the world.
