Novalash Lash Extension

Neomi Roberson of Beauty’s Angels in Houston, Texas, has probably extended more lashes than any other esthetician since first picking up her first extension four years ago. Roberson has taken her skill to Novalash, a lash extension manufacturer, and now trains and educates other estheticians while maintaining a diverse and loyal clientele.

“It is one of the most addictive of all the services,” says Roberson. “My clients range from high school cheerleaders to a 68-year-old socialite. Eyelash extensions can represent the highest profit you can make in a spa or salon: There is a huge upcharge on a minimal investment.”

While the technique is key, Roberson points out that “the selection of lash length and placement makes this service as much an art as make-up and hairdressing.”

Lashes come in five different sizes, three different widths (from .15 to .25) and shapes that are curly or more natural.
To perform the service, Roberson dons a forehead-mounted flashlight, sanitizes everything, then meticulously works back and forth from eye to eye. “It offers a better symmetry and balance,” she says. After two hours, 40 to 75 lashes of varying length and thickness have been placed on each eye. “You need to mix it up for a more natural look.”

“I have my clients sign a consent form agreeing to use my aftercare kit including a special mascara, moisturizer and an oil-free make-up remover. This is the only way I will guarantee my work.” Most lashes will last about four weeks and Roberson offers an in-between touch up.

Roberson charges $300 for each service. “Business is booming in the eyelash extension world,” says Roberson. “It’s not a skill for an impatient person, but extending lashes is one of my favorite services.”
