The MODERN SALON editorial and sales team join CC Board Members and Pivot Point leaders in honor of CC's 100th, Pivot Point’s 50th and VANCE's 75th anniversaries.
Our Colorful History
Hair color has always been part of MODERN SALON’s heritage and mission to provide quality education for beauty professionals. Over many decades, MODERN is proud to have collaborated with the greatest educators and artists in our industry, in color and other salon service disciplines. We are also proud to be part of a company that has continually invested in meaningful content for our audiences, allowing us to innovate and develop new platforms to share it with you.
This year, MODERN’s parent company VANCE Publishing Corp. celebrates 75 years as a leader in business media. Like many salons, VANCE is a privately held, family-led business. Herbert A. Vance founded the company; his son William C. Vance is our chairman today, as VANCE delivers more than 20 brands to audiences in four diverse markets.
The Vance family acquired what was then Modern Beauty Shop in 1957 from its founders, who started it in 1924. Chicago has always been MODERN’s base.
Last month, we had a special occasion to acknowledge VANCE’s 75th anniversary at a hometown celebration with two other industry leaders. At America’s Beauty Show, Cosmetologists Chicago marked a century of service, and Pivot Point International kicked off its 50th anniversary year at the CC100 Beauty Bash (see page 64).

To note our history together and our commitment to the future of beauty, VANCE donated more than $7,500 to CC’s Presidents Scholarship Fund for advanced education. We found it a fitting way for MODERN and VANCE to keep sowing growth in a market we are proud to serve. Enjoy the colors of spring, and keep blooming.
