American Crew has announced André Luísde Jesus of Brazil, Attila Can of Germany, Ciara Madden of Ireland, Christian Ríos Torres of Spain and Serena Hussain Hill of U.K., as the Global Champions of the 2021 All-Star Challenge.

An annual global competition over 20 years in the running, American Crew All-Star Challenge highlights world-class talent in men’s grooming. Barbers and hair stylists across the globe are encouraged to showcase their skill and technique by creating signature looks with American Crew products to capture the spirit of the brand. Having evolved from a local competition to a global event, the All-Star Challenge has provided opportunities and industry inspiration for emerging barbers and groomers alike.

This year, the brand has chosen five Global Champions from 42 participating countries, awarding even more incredible talent and diversity in terms of hair textures, styles and trends.

“It’s always incredible to see the level of artisanship get better and better every year. But after aparticularly challenging year for the industry, it’s even more special to see how passionate this community remains about their craft,” said David Raccuglia, Founder of American Crew. “Our five winners showed unbelievable creativity and skill and brought forth their visions in a way that earned their spot amongst the world’s top industry-leaders. We look forward to seeing how this award helps push the boundaries of their careers in 2021 and beyond.”

The five Global Champions were chosen as their respective country’s winner by their in-country judging panel, before being submitted to The All-Star Challenge Global Committee. The Committee made their decision after careful consideration of the following judging criteria:

  • Barbering: mastery of clipper skills, fading and shaving

  • High Texture: ability to display technical skills, shape, and control whilst working with highly textured hair

  • Length: excellence in cutting and styling hair with length while maintaining a masculine edge

  • Retro: ability to recreate a classic cut from the past, with technical excellence in cutting and styling

  • Trend: ability to be creative and think ahead by producing a shape or style that could become a trend

With thousands of incredible submissions from talented barbers and stylists all over the world, these five looks stood out to the prestigious panel of judges and are acknowledged as today’s industry-leading talent. Swipe through our slideshow above to them all!

The five global winners will be rewarded with a number of prizes including a $5,000 cash prize and an allexpense paid trip to Barcelona, Spain to participate in an editorial photo shoot directed and shot by American Crew Founder, and renowned photographer, David Raccuglia.
