The generosity of Matrix co-founders Sydell Miller and the late Arnold Miller is continuing to change the lives of young beauty professionals with the launch of five scholarships funded by the Arnold & Sydell Miller Family Foundation. The scholarships are part of a $1,000,000 gift announced in 2017 to fund scholarships administered by the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation. The Miller Family Foundation sponsors both a “spring” and “fall” scholarship competition annually.
Building on a heritage of haircutting innovation, artistry and entrepreneurial spirit, the new scholarships celebrate the legacy of two celebrated beauty and wellness influencers – Sydell and Arnold Miller. The 2019 scholarship offerings include three new artistic scholarships, as well as the signature Find-A-Way cosmetology scholarship and Total Image Esthetics Scholarship. Each of the scholarships is accepting applications from December 1 through February 10, 2019. Details on each scholarship follow:
The Arnold M. Miller │Find-A-Way Student Scholarship
Celebrating Arnie Miller’s “Find-A-Way “attitude and “can do” spirit, this scholarship funds one $15,000 tuition award. Applicants who have “found a way” in their life and career, will submit a three-to-five minute video presenting three images of artistic work along with a statement of how their “Find-A-Way Attitude” helped advance their cosmetology career.
The Sydell L. Miller│Total Image Esthetics Student Scholarship
As an innovator and visionary, Sydell Miller showed salon owners “beauty doesn’t stop at the hairline.” This scholarship recognizes a student who wants to help clients project their best image through skincare and cosmetics. The Sydell L. Miller Total Image Scholarship awards one $15,000 scholarship to an esthetic student, based on a three-to-five minute video showing an esthetic treatment or makeup application and discussing the applicant’s passion for a career in esthetics or makeup artistry.
The Sydell & Arnold Miller Family │Art of Haircutting Student Scholarship
Open to students who hold a passion for innovative and artistic haircuts, this scholarship funds one $5,000 tuition award. Using a model or mannequin, applicants will submit a three-to-five minute video presenting three different haircuts, while sharing an explanation of the applicant’s creative vision and a declaration of why the student loves cutting hair.
Sydell & Arnold Miller Family│Art of Hairdressing Student Scholarship
Honoring the art of dressing hair for proms, weddings, awards and special occasions, the scholarship funds a tuition award valued at $5,000. The scholarship winner will be selected based on a three-to-five minute video presenting three unique hair inspirations, along with the student’s creative vision and a declaration of why the student loves cutting hair.
Sydell & Arnold Miller Family │Art of Hair Coloring Scholarship
Celebrating the creativity and artistic skills colorists share with their clients, this scholarship is open to students with a passion for hair coloring. One $5,000 tuition scholarship will be awarded to a cosmetology student. The winner will be selected based on a three-to-five-minute video presenting three hair coloring techniques that share the student’s creative vision for hair coloring and describes why the student loves coloring hair.
“The humanitarian efforts of the Millers continue to change lives,” said Lynelle Lynch, president of the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation. “Just a year after announcing the scholarship program during the Beauty Changes Lives Legacy Award Dinner, awardees are embarking on amazing careers and building influence in national beauty circles,” Lynch said.
The Miller Family Foundation is deeply invested in selecting applicants and following their careers. Earlier this year, the Miller family was onsite at America’s Beauty Show to announce the inaugural scholarship winners. “Giving back to help others was always part of the way Arnie and I approached life and business,” said Sydell Miller. “Our family’s legacy of paying success forward is continuing to shape the next generation of beauty leaders through these scholarships.”
